Georgetown Tied for 11th after First Round of Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's golf team is sitting in a tie in 11th place after 18 holes at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic. The Hoyas carded a 13-over par 293 on the day.

Junior Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Edgewood/Cardinal Gibbons, [Fla.]) led the way on Sunday for Georgetown, shooting a 1-over par 71, leaving him tied for 15th overall. Junior Jack Musgrave (Chesterton, Ind./Andrean) was right behind Madsen, carding a 3-over par 73, good for a tie in 32nd place.

Junior Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) was one stroke back of Musgrave at 4-over par 74, leaving him tied in 42nd. Freshman Eduardo Blochtein (Delray Beach, Fla./Spanish River Community) is tied for 56th at 5-over par 75. Freshman Hardin Councill (High Point, N.C./Westchester Country Day), made his debut as a Hoya, and is tied for 67th overall at 6-over par 76.

Eastern Michigan is the current overall leader sitting at even par 280. UTEP and Illinois State are tied for second place at 2-over par 282 and Utah State is in fourth place at 3-over par 283. Host Notre Dame rounds out the top-five sitting at 5-over par 285. The individual leader after 18 holes is Blake Barens of Notre Dame after carding a 4-under par 66.

Play resumes tomorrow, Monday 10/10 with the Hoyas teeing off at 10:00 am ET.
