WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) defeat at the hands of No. 21 Creighton in BIG EAST action on Friday night. The Hoyas fall to 6-24 overall and 2-15 in league play.
Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) led the Hoyas with 11 kills while Ashlie Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) added six and Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) had five. Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) paced the GU offense with 23 assists while Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) led the defense with 13 digs.
Higareda is now eight digs shy of becoming just the 10th player in program history to amass 1,000 career digs.
A close start to the match saw six tied scores en route to an early 6-6 draw. The Hoyas would keep things close, trailing 9-8, but a 4-0 run from the Bluejays (23-6, 17-0 BIG EAST) extended their advantage as they held at least a three point lead the rest of the set.
In the second, another back-and-forth battle saw another six ties and a pair of lead changes in the frame. Georgetown kept pace with its nationally-ranked hosts, including taking the lead in the frame at 15-14 and trailing 20-19 later on, but Creighton closed out the stanza on a 5-1 run to seal the win.
Georgetown didn't give up in the third and kept its competitive fire to the very end. Seven more ties and another two lead changes highlighted the frame, including a tied score at 17-17. The Hoyas would make things interesting, tailing by just one at 19-18, but CU used another strong run to end things with a 6-1 spurt.
Taryn Kloth led Creighton with a match-high 16 kills while Jaali Winters added 12.
Georgetown returns to action on Sunday as it closes out the 2016 season with a road contest at Providence.
