Hoyas Travel to No. 24 Creighton for Regular Season Finale

Nov. 2, 2016

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer squad (6-8-2, 3-3-2 BIG EAST) close out the regular season at No. 24 Creighton University (8-5-3, 4-3-1 BIG EAST) on Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The Hoyas need a victory in order to earn a BIG EAST Championship berth.

On Monday, junior midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) earned weekly honors as he helped the Hoyas to a 1-0-1 week. Lema assisted two of the Hoyas' three goals in a 3-2 victory over Villanova on Saturday at Shaw Field. His assists came on the first two goals, the equalizer and the go-ahead goal. He also helped the midfield keep the Pirates scoreless in Georgetown's 0-0 draw with Seton Hall, helping the Hoyas stay alive in the playoff picture.

Leading the scoring for the Hoyas are seniors Brett Campbell (Wallingford, Pa./Haverford School) and Jon Azzinnari (Nutley, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) with eight points on four goals apiece. Lema is third with seven points on one goal and a squad-best five assists. Junior midfielders Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) rounds out the top four with six points on two goals and two assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) has been solid in the net with 59 saves in 14 games, four shutouts and a 1.11 goals-against average. Senior goalkeeper Mitchell Auer (Columbus, Ohio/Dunlap [Ill.]) has 15 saves in two contests with a 1.80 GAA.

The Bluejays dropped their third-consecutive match on Saturday night, 1-0, against Providence. Creighton is currently in a three-way tie for third place in the BIG EAST with Villanova and Xavier with 13 points. The Bluejays can finish as high as second in the BIG EAST standings or as low as seventh depending on the outcomes on the final day of regular-season conference play on Thursday.

Riggs Lennon leads Creighton with nine goals, while Noah Franke has a team-high six assists. Creighton has had 10 different players score at least one goal, and five have converted two or more. Goalkeeper Alex Kapp leads the BIG EAST with six shutouts and holds a 0.71 goals against average.

Georgetown is 3-2-1 all-time against the Bluejays and 1-0-1 on the road. The teams met twice last season with GU winning, 2-1, in double overtime at Shaw Field to win the BIG EAST Championship. The Blue & Gray won the regular season crown with a 2-1 victory to end the regular season. The last meeting in Omaha was a 1-0 GU victory during the 2014 season. Basuljevic scored the game-winner in that contest.
