Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (1-5, 0-0 BIG EAST) could not erase a four-goal deficit in the fourth quarter, falling 10-9 to Hobart College (3-3, 0-0 NEC) on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field.

The Hoyas trailed 9-5 heading into the fourth quarter, before graduate student midfielder Joe Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and freshman attack Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) took over, leading a 4-1 run in the final frame. But the Hoyas' final shot sailed wide of the cage, as time ran out on GU's comeback attempt. Bucci finished with a career-high five goals and one assist, while Bucaro had two goals, three assists and two caused turnovers in the loss.

Sophomore goalie Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) had nine saves in the loss, while junior midfielder Nick Carpenter (Oakton, Va./Paul VI) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Bucaro put the Hoyas on the scoreboard first, converting the feed from Bucci to take a 1-0 lead with 13:12 remaining in the first quarter.

Hobart controlled possession for the next 10 minutes, aiding a three-goal run. Junior midfielder Devon Lewis (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) ended the streak, scoring on a jump shot to bring the Hoyas back within one goal, at 3-2.

The Statesmen scored to start the second quarter, extending the lead back to two goals, at 4-2. Bucci brought GU back within one goal on an assist from Lewis at the 3:02 mark in the second quarter, but that would be the last goal of the half, as the Hoyas trailed 4-3 going into the break.

The Blue & Gray jumped out quickly in the third quarter, as freshman attack Chris Donovan (Morristown, N.J./The Hun School) converted the feed from Bucaro along the crease for a goal, tying the score at four. Bucci scores his second goal of the game on Lewis's assist to give GU its first lead, 5-4, at the 9:51 mark in the third quarter.

Hobart tied the score seconds later on Frank Brown's second goal of the day, to begin a 5-0 run for the Statesmen. The third quarter ended with Georgetown trailing 9-5.

Bucci scored his third goal of the game on an assist from Bucaro 30 seconds into the fourth quarter to end the Hobart run. Bucaro assisted another Bucci goal seconds later to bring the Hoyas back within two goals, at 9-7. After a Hobart goal, Bucaro scored at the 11:04 mark to bring GU back within two goals. Bucci scored three minutes later to close the gap to one goal, but that would be the last goal of the game, as Hobart was able hold onto the ball.

Georgetown returns to action on Saturday, March 19 when they travel to Durham, N.C. to take on Duke University. The opening faceoff against the Blue Devils is scheduled for 1 p.m.
