Georgetown Track & Field Tallies 19 on the BIG EAST All-Conference Squad

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field team tallied 19 on the All-BIG EAST squad following the two-day 2016 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships, presented by the Jeep Brand, over the weekend at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex, held in Staten Island, N.Y. The Hoya men and women both finished fourth at the championships.

The Hoyas totaled 19 named All-BIG EAST with 10 women and nine men making the all-conference squad. The All-BIG EAST squad is comprised of BIG EAST competitors who finished in the top three in any individual or relay event at the championships. The list is comprised of 58 women and 59 women (117 total) with 42 student-athletes (20 women, 22 men) earning all-conference accolades in multiple events.

Seven women received the honor in three events with the GU responsible for three in All-American Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) in the 3,000-meter run, distance medley relay (DMR) and 4x800-meter relay; All-American Sabrina Southerland (New York, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) in the 1,000-meter run, DMR and 4x400-meter relay and Kennedy Weisner (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) in the mile, DMR and 4x800-meter relay.

Georgetown's five event titles on the women's side was the most in program history and tied for the conference lead with St. John's with the quintet coming from the 13 track events.

The Hoyas will continue the postseason with the ECAC/IC4A Championships, held March 5-6 in Boston, Mass., and the NCAA Indoor Championships, held March 11-12 in Birmingham, Ala.

The Rundown
• Joe White tallied his fourth indoor title (2016 800m, 2016 DMR, 2015 400m, 2015 4x400m) at the 2016 BIG EAST Indoor Championship and that ties him for sixth in program history in total BE indoor titles with Michael Jasper. White has entered four events at the indoor championships in his career and won all four.
• The Hoya women tied for third with most all-conference honorees (10) with Villanova behind Marquette (14) and St. John's (11). The GU women recorded 20 total honors from 10 athletes yielding a 2.0 honor per athlete average, the best of the nine schools. Marquette tallied the most honors with 21 from 14 student-athletes (1.5 avg).
