Hoyas Conclude Road Trip at William & Mary

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team (12-14) wraps up its nine-game road trip with its final nonconference series at William & Mary (12-11) this weekend. The two teams will play a three-game set at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Virginia, starting at 6 p.m. on Friday night. They will also play Saturday at 4 p.m. and wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Live stats for all three games will be available on www.guhoyas.com.

GU comes into the weekend after defeating Coppin State, 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon to snap a four-game losing streak. Freshman Cristian Sanchez (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka Community) finished 3-for-4 in his first career start with two doubles and a single to lead the offense. Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) had a two-hit performance, with a single and double, and was on base three times. Dante Ricciardi (West Boylston, Mass./Worcester Academy) was also on base three times with a single and two walks. Nick Leonard (Washington, D.C./Maret) picked up his first win with 5.1 innings of work in his first start of the season. He allowed just one run on three hits while registering four strikeouts. Casey Goldenberg (North Palm Beach, Fla./Suncoast Community) came in in relief and threw 1.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout. David Ellingson (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) registered his sixth save of the season.

For the season, the Hoyas are led by Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) who continues to be strong at the plate, leading the entire BIG EAST with a .370 batting average (34-for-92) while also leading GU with seven doubles, eight stolen bases, 48 total bases and a .522 slugging percentage. He second on the team with 15 runs scored and is fifth with 10 RBI. DeRenzi is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak and has six multi-hit efforts in that span. In his past seven games, DeRenzi has a home run, five doubles and nine RBI. Bialkowski has a team-high three home runs out of the cleanup spot for the Hoyas and is second on the team with 15 RBI. Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge), who is batting .278 (25-for-90), leads Georgetown with 17 RBI and is tied for second on the squad with five doubles.

William & Mary comes into this weekend with an overall record of 12-11 and are 4-1 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Tribe are currently on a four-game winning streak and have won six of their past seven games, including two wins apiece over CAA-foes Hofstra and Elon. William & Mary has a .309 team batting average and six regulars are currently batting over .300. Ryan Hall leads the way with a .385 average (35-for-91) while Hunter Smith, the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week, is right behind him at .377 (20-for-53). Charles Ameer, who was named the CAA Player of the Week on Monday, is batting .344 and is tied with Cullen Large for the team lead with three home runs.

After this weekend, the Hoyas will return home to Shirley Povich Field for a midweek matchup against Navy. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 3 p.m. Next weekend, Georgetown will head back out on the road to open BIG EAST action, playing a three-game series at conference-rival St. John's in Queens, N.Y.
