PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Junior closer David Ellingson (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) of the Georgetown University baseball team has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. Ellingson was recognized for his performances in Georgetown's four games this past week.
Ellingson helped the Hoyas to a 2-2 week, with wins over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) and No. 15 Florida Atlantic University (FAU). In Georgetown's 1-0 win over UMBC on Tuesday, Ellingson picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out the final two batters of the game. He entered Friday night's game against the 15th-ranked Owls with one out in the ninth and the tying run at the plate. He again struck out the final two batters to preserve the win and register his third save of the season.
This is Ellingson's second nod to the honor roll this season and second of his career. GU has had four selections this season as Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) has also earned two honor roll recognitions.
The Hoyas are currently in the middle of their spring break trip to Florida where they will next play on Wednesday, taking on Western Michigan University at 11 a.m. as part of the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte. The trip will conclude with a three-game series against the University of Pennsylvania at the spring training facility of the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie. Live stats for all games will be available at www.guhoyas.com.
