WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's lacrosse's Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week on Tuesday for her efforts over the past week. Additionally, Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Bandos repeated as BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week after stuffing the stat sheet with five points, three goals, two assists, five draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. The Hoyas were edged by UConn, 9-8, on Wednesday despite Bandos' two goals and four draw controls. She started GU's rally midway through the second half, with Georgetown taking the advantage with six minutes to play before UConn scored the game winner with 17 ticks left. In a crucial win over Marquette on Saturday, Bandos scored the game-tying goal with 10 minutes remaining before the Hoyas scored the go-ahead goal with under five minutes to play.
Bandos garnered weekly honors for the second time this season, and the third time in her career. It was the fourth weekly award of the year for the Blue & Gray.
Whitehurst helped keep the Hoyas in playoff contention with eight points off five goals and three assists, along with five draw controls in a 1-1 week. Her back-to-back goals to open the second half against Marquette gave Georgetown a three-goal advantage, the most either team led by throughout the contest.
This is Whitehurst's first-career nod to the honor roll. She was the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on March 1. It is Georgetown's fifth honor roll award this season.
Georgetown has won three of its last four to remain in contention for a spot in the BIG EAST Championship.
The Hoyas will close out the regular season next weekend as GU travels to Temple University for a 1 p.m., matchup. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. The game will finalize seedings for the BIG EAST Championship.
