WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team (13-17) opens BIG EAST play this weekend when it travels to Queens, N.Y. for a three-game series at St. John's University (14-10-1). The two teams will open play at Jack Kaiser Stadium on Friday at 3 p.m. on a game to be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The series will continue on Saturday at 1 p.m. before wrapping up on Sunday at noon in game to be shown on ESPN3. Live stats for all three games will be available on www.guhoyas.com.

The Hoyas are looking to snap a nine-game losing streak against the Red Storm. The last time the Blue & Gray defeated St. John's was April 12, 2013, when GU came away with a 3-0 victory in the first game of a three-game set at Shirley Povich Field.
GU comes into the weekend having dropped three in a row after falling to the Naval Academy, 6-5, on Tuesday afternoon. Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge) led the Georgetown offense with a 3-for-5 effort and two RBI. Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) also had a pair of RBI while Dante Ricciardi (West Boylston, Mass./Worcester Academy) was on base three times with three walks and scored a pair of runs. Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison HS) and David Ellingson (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) each fired a perfect inning in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) is currently riding a 15-game hitting streak, dating back to March 10 against Moravian in Florida, and has eight multi-hit efforts in that span. It is the longest streak since Sean Lamont hit safely in 15-consecutive games in 2011.
For the season, the Hoyas are led by DeRenzi who continues to be strong at the plate, ranking second in the BIG EAST with a .357 batting average (40-for-112), while also leading GU with three triples, 10 stolen bases, 59 total bases and a .527 slugging percentage. He is tied for the team lead with two home runs and seven doubles, is second with 18 runs scored and is third with 14 RBI. Bialkowski has a team-high three home runs out of the cleanup spot for the Hoyas and is second on the team with 18 RBI. Kuzbel, who is batting .270 (30-for-111), leads Georgetown with 21 RBI.
St. John's comes into this weekend after having a seven-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday with a 4-1 loss at Columbia. The Red Storm, who are the reigning BIG EAST champions, have a team .275 batting average while the pitching staff has a 4.67 ERA. Jamie Galazin leads the offense with a .329 average (24-for-73) and is 12-of-13 in stolen bases. Jesse Berardi has three home runs and a team-high 23 RBI, while Gui Gingras leads the Red Storm with four home runs.
After this weekend, the Hoyas will return home to Shirley Povich Field for a midweek matchup against George Mason on Tuesday at 3 p.m. GU will travel to Princess Anne, Md. on Wednesday for a contest at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. Xavier will visit Shirley Povich Field next weekend for a three-game series.
