Adair to Speak at USA Basketball Youth Coach Academy

June 14, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Basketball Coach Natasha Adair has been invited to be one of 10 featured speakers at USA Basketball's Youth Coach Academy in New York City over the weekend of July 9-10. Adair is the lone female and will speak to youth coaches from all over the East Coast who are looking to improve their skills in the huddle.

This is just the second year of the USA Basketball Youth Coach Academy as the organization looks to set a standard for youth coaches nationwide. There will be six sites in 2016 including New York, Las Vegas, Houston, Boston, Atlanta and Portland.

"I'm honored to be selected to speak at the USA Basketball Youth Coach Academy in New York," said Adair. "This is a great opportunity to share with youth coaches about our program philosophy and style of play here at Georgetown."

The two-day Academy will feature guest speakers, on and off-court presentations, live training for the USA Basketball Coach License and Time Out Talks ââ'¬" networking hour with speakers.

In her second season on the Hilltop, Adair helped the Hoyas go 16-14 last season, which was the third-largest turnaround in the country. GU was the fifth seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and two players were Second Team All-BIG EAST honorees. The Blue & Gray also earned a berth in the 2016 WNIT.

In her first season at Georgetown, Adair coached Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) the 2015 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year. Prior to Georgetown, she spent two years at the College of Charleston where she had two-consecutive WBI berths.

Adair spent 14 seasons as an assistant coach at Georgetown and Wake Forest. At GU, she coached and mentored WNBA All-Star Rebekkah Brunson.

The USA Basketball Youth Coach Academy - presented by NIKE - offers live training to provide coaches valuable insight and education for teaching the game of basketball to young players. Coaches will learn the USA Basketball Player Development Curriculum to impart a proper skill development path to those they coach. Guest speakers highlight on-court and off-court coaching techniques and life skills to deliver engaging sessions to coaches and administrators. All attendees will receive training on the USA Basketball course requirements for a Coach License.

The USA Basketball Licensing and Accreditation programs set national standards for coaches, administrators and organizations as they strive to become their best. These initiatives aim to enhance enjoyment, participation and development in the game through coach education and training. Make a commitment to the values of fun and safety by imparting the USA Basketball curriculum and guidelines.
