Aug. 12, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University alum Emily Infeld (B'12) finished 11th in the women's 10,000-meter finals at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games on Friday morning. Competing at Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Stadium, Infeld placed 11th in the 37-team field in breezy and drizzly conditions with the temperature registering at 64 degrees.

Infeld clocked a personal-best 31:26.94 to finish 11th in the race and was the second American to cross the finish line. Infeld was part of the chase pack that formed over the 25-lap race.

Infeld managed her own impressive performance, a nearly 12-second PB, on a day where Ethiopia's Almaz Ayana set a world record in the event with her winning time of 29:17.45. Infeld's previous best (31:38.71) was set more than one year ago in Palo Alto, Calif.

Infeld is the 20th Olympian in GU track & field history and the first female athlete. The last Hoya track & field Olympians competed at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games in Rich Kenah (800m), Kevin McMahon (hammer throw) and Bryan Woodward (800m).
