Hoyas Host Xavier in BIG EAST Home Opener

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer squad (2-5-0, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) will host the Xavier University Musketeers (3-0-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Shaw Field in the team's BIG EAST home opener. The contest will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action.

On Monday, senior forward Brett Campbell (Wallingford, Pa./The Haverford School) earned weekly honors as he helped the Hoyas to a 1-0 victory over the Providence College Friars on Saturday evening in Rhode Island. Campbell scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute to give the Hoyas their first BIG EAST Conference victory and help the Blue & Gray post its second shutout of the season.

Leading the scoring for the Hoyas is Campbell with four points on two goals, both game winners, on the season. Freshman forward Achara (Enugu, Nigeria/Berkshire School [Mass.]) is second with two points for the year. Freshman forward Davey Mason (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), junior midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) and junior midfielder Matt Ledder (Falls Church, Va./Gonzaga) all have one point apiece on the season, respectively.

Sophomore goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) has been solid in the net with 37 saves in seven games, two shutouts and a 0.86 GAA.

The Musketeers are coming off a 1-0 win against DePaul last weekend, it was the squad's first shutout of the season. They are one of the four teams, including Georgetown, off to a 1-0 start in league play. Majed Osman scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick and led the match with six shots, including three on frame.

Georgetown is 3-2 all-time against the Musketeers and 2-0 at home. Last season, the squad met twice. The Blue & Gray posted a 1-0 BIG EAST semifinal victory at Shaw Field led by a goal in the 16th minute from Brandon Allen. During the regular season meeting, the Hoyas won, 1-0, on an overtime goal from Keegan Rosenberry in the 96th minute in Cincinnati.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action. Fans can follow the live stats at Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
