WASHINGTON - On Tuesday afternoon, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) office announced that Georgetown softball's Sera Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) was named to the 2016-17 NFCA Division I All-America Scholar-Athlete Team. There is a total of 7,351 softball players across seven membership divisions that earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year.
To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must have a 3.5 grade-point average or higher. This is the sophomore's first time being honored with this award. Last year as a freshman, Stevens appeared in 47 games for the Hoyas and had 33 hits as well as 19 RBIs in 126 at-bats. The catcher registered a .984 fielding percentage with 172 putouts. She is currently tied for fourth on the team with three home runs.
NCAA Division I led the way with 1,843 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher, while 1,825 in Division III garnered recognition followed by 1,268 Division II student-athletes. High School weighted and high school unweighted posted 751 and 609 honorees apiece. NAIA amassed 559 recipients and Junior Colleges totaled 496.
