WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's soccer team will host the Marquette Golden Eagles in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Thursday afternoon. Kickoff at Shaw Field is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Monika Moore calling the action. The Hoyas dropped a tough 1-0 decision on the road at Providence in BIG EAST action on Sunday afternoon. The Blue & Gray fell to 10-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in league play. Providence netted an early goal at the 5:25 mark and held off Georgetown's offensive onslaught the rest of the contest. The Hoyas outshot their hosts 18-4 in the game and took eight corner kicks compared to none for the Friars.
Senior midfielder Rachel Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Pingry) continues to lead the Hoyas in scoring with five goals and nine assists on the season for 19 points. Corboz has now moved into a group of just nine active Division I players to boast 30 goals and 20 assists in their careers, she is the only player on that list with more than 40 assists. Corboz, who is already the NCAA's active career leader in dishes with 41, is now fourth on the active career points list with 101.
Forward Amanda Carolan (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) is second with a team-high eight goals and one assist for 17 points. Junior forward Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) is third with six goals and three assists for 15 points. Jenna Menta (Lincolndale, N.Y./Somers) rounds out the top four with three goals and four assists for 10 points.
In the net, junior Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) has played all 1,420 minutes and has 22 saves and a 0.44 goals against average. She leads the BIG EAST with 11 shutouts.
The Golden Eagles (10-5-1, 3-3 BIG EAST) picked up a much needed three points in the BIG EAST Conference standings in their last match against Xavier on Saturday night in Milwaukee. Sixth-year senior Darian Powell scored the golden goal at the 92:23 mark on a header over the Xavier keeper on a ball played into the box by Ryley Bugay. Saturday's win puts MU alone in fifth place in the league standings at nine points with three matches to play.
Georgetown leads the all-time series against Marquette with a 4-3-1 record and GU is 3-0-1 over the last four meetings. The Hoyas downed MU, 2-0, in both the regular season and the BIG EAST tournament final last season. Carolan scored both GU goals in the regular season meeting, while Grace Damaska and Corboz tallied a goal apiece in the tournament matchup.
