WASHINGTON - Georgetown University field hockey freshman Ali Cronin (Hershey Pa./Hershey) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday while freshman Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
The Hoyas had back-to-back wins over the weekend, one in a BIG EAST match against Temple, 3-2, and the other against LIU Brooklyn, 9-0. Georgetown is now 7-5 overall, 1-2 in the BIG EAST.
Cronin, a midfielder, more than doubled her season point total, with eight (2 goals, 4 assists) on the week. Trailing 1-0 in the opening half, Cronin found junior Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) for her first assist of the afternoon and her third of the season as the Hoyas evened the match, 1-1. Later in the second half, Cronin assisted Nell Van Schaack (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) for the game winner.
In Sunday's nonconference match against LIU Brooklyn, Cronin found a way to score the first goal of the game within the first minute. She later went on to score another goal as well as managing two assists in the 9-0 win.
Osborne tallied seven points over the weekend, as she helped Georgetown take the lead against Temple with a goal right before halftime. On Sunday, she recorded two goals and an assist. Osborne currently leads the Hoyas with nine goals this season. This is her second time being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. She was also selected as BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on August 28, 2017.
