WASHINGTON - Two members of the Georgetown University women's soccer team earned BIG EAST Conference honors on Monday. Senior Elizabeth Wenger (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while senior midfielder Rachel Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Pingry) earned a spot on the honor roll.
Wenger helped the Hoyas to a 1-0 victory over the Xavier Musketeers on Thursday to win the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for just the second time in program history. Wenger made a game-saving tackle as the defense tallied its 14th shutout of the season.
The is her fifth BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week award this season and the fifth of her career. On Saturday, she was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year as well as First Team All-BIG EAST.
Corboz scored the game winner against Xavier on a free kick, bending it into the upper corner to give the Hoyas the victory as well as the regular season championship. It marked her sixth goal of the season.
This is her 11th career weekly honor and her fifth nod to the honor roll, including the second of the 2017 season. On Saturday she was also named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year as well as a First Team All-BIG EAST Honoree.
The top-seeded Hoyas will face fourth-seeded Marquette in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals on Thursday afternoon at Shaw Field.
