Green Named Cross Country All-American

Nov. 20, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University cross country standout Jonathan Green (Berlin, Mass./Saint John's School) was named an All-American in men's cross country following an announcement from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday. Green finished 10th overall at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships, held at the EP "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday.

Green's time of 29:38.6 over the 10-kilometer course was enough to place 10th overall in the race and earn All-America honors that go to the top 40 finishers. It is the 39th All-America nod in men's cross country in Georgetown history and Green is the eighth Hoya in program history to earn multiple All-America accolades in men's cross country.

Green's 2017 performance, combined with All-American Scott Carpenter's 10th-place showing (2016) and Green's fifth-place finish from the 2015 season, is the first time in program history the Hoyas have put up three-consecutive top-10 performances at the NCAA championships.

The 2017 men's cross country campaign saw the Blue & Gray complete at three-peat at the BIG EAST Championships. The Hoyas join Providence as the only two programs in league history to achieve the feat. For its effort, the coaching staff was named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. Green was named the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year following his winning performance at the regional meet.

The Hoyas will take the rest of the month off and open the indoor season at the U.S. Naval Academy in December. The men's team will open the season at the Navy Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 2. The women's team will start competition on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the Navy Lid Lifter.
