Georgetown Begins BIG EAST action on Wednesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's basketball team begins BIG EAST Conference play when it hosts Butler Wednesday night. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. The Hoyas completed their nonconference schedule last Saturday after defeating Alabama A&M, 89-49, at home. Georgetown concluded nonconference play with a 10-1 record.

Wednesday's game will be shown live on FS1 with Kevin Kugler calling the play-by-play and Donny Marshall serving as the color analyst. The game can be heard locally on WNEW 99.1 FM with Rich Chvotkin calling the action.

Five Hoyas scored in double figures against Alabama A&M with freshman forward Antwan Walker (Washington, D.C./Hargrave Military Academy [Va.]) leading the way with a career and game-high 16 points in 15 minutes. Freshman guard Jahvon Blair (Brampton, Ont./Athlete Institute Prep) added 13 points, junior center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Academy) tallied 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds and junior forward Kaleb Johnson (South Hill, Va./The Carlisle School) and freshman guard Jamorko Pickett (Washington, D.C./Massanutten Military Academy [Va.]) added 10 points apiece.

For the game, Georgetown shot 56.7 percent from the floor on 34-for-60 shooting. The Hoyas outrebounded the Bulldogs, 38-30, and the GU bench managed 43 points to A&M's 19. Butler ended the nonconference schedule with a 107-46 win against Western Illinois. The Bulldogs are 10-3 on the season (8-0 at home; 2-3 on the road). They are led by Kelan Martin who is averaging 17.9 ppg and 7.2 rpg in 13 games this season.

Wednesday's game will be the 11th meeting between Georgetown and Butler. The Hoyas lead the series 6-4. The teams split the 2016-17 series with each winning on the other's home court. Following Wednesday's game, Georgetown hits the road to play at Marquette on Saturday, Dec. 30 and at DePaul on Tuesday, Jan 2.
