Iowa State Results - Friday | Fastrack National Invitational

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field team continued its 2017 indoor campaign as the team split sites on Friday night, with a small contingent traveling to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic and a larger group competing at the Fastrack National Invitational, held at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex. Ocean Breeze will also serve as the host facility for the 2017 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships later this month. The night was highlighted by nine personal records (PRs) across the board.

"The Hoyas have been angled much of the season to have big performances this weekend with NCAA qualifying efforts," Interim Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Julie Culley said. "We are off to a great start with both Jon Green and Scott Carpenter running personal bests, making the top two all-time GU list, and solidifying a spot on the line in Texas next month in the 5,000m and 3,000m respectively. Kennedy Weisner had another big PR in the mile moving up on the national list and closing in on a birth to her first indoor national championship meet. Both Audrey Belf and Haley Pierce raced exceptionally in the women's 3,000m in New York, proving fitness and showing they are ready to take a shot at qualifying for nationals. We have great momentum heading into the BIG EAST Championships in two weeks."

The Hoyas will continue competing on Saturday, February 11 with the second day of the Iowa State Classic and another small group participating in the BU Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University.

Iowa State Classic (Lied Recreation Athletic Center; Ames, Iowa)
At the Iowa State Classic, a pair of Hoyas recorded new PRs as All-American Scott Carpenter (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial) broke eight minutes in the 3,000-meter run for the first time in his career. He ran to a fifth-place finish, clocking 7:51.51 in the event. He improved upon his previous best by nearly 19 seconds and ranks second all-time in Georgetown history, just five-hundredths of a second off GU leader Kevin King, who ran 7:51.46 to win the 1985 NCAA 3,000-meter title at the Carrier Dome.

In the men's 5,000-meter run, All-American Jonathan Green (Berlin, Mass./St. John's High School) recorded a nearly six-second PR, timing in at 13:45.73 to finish fifth overall in the event. His time ranks second all-time in Blue & Gray history, edging out All-American Steve Holman's 13:47.63. Holman was a two-time NCAA champion (1991 indoor DMR; 1992 outdoor 1,500m).

Jody-Ann Knight (Bentonville, Ark./Bentonville) is making a claim that Ocean Breeze will feel like her home track as she ran a PR in the 200-meter dash for the second time this season, both occurring at the track that will host the BE championships in two weeks.
