Hoyas Travel to George Washington on Wednesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (0-1) will make the short drive to George Washington University's Mount Vernon Athletic Complex on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. contest against the Colonials (0-1) at the the GW Lacrosse Field. The Hoyas battled, but could not come up with a late goal to fall to the University of Delaware Blue Hens, 10-9, in the teams' season opener on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.

Sophomore attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) led the way with five points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J./Oak Knoll School) added a hat trick, and freshman midfielder Emily Ehle (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tallied a pair of goals in her first intercollegiate game. Senior goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) was active in the cage with 14 saves on the afternoon.

George Washington dropped its season opener to Monmouth, 16-15, at home on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Jocelyn Donohue scored four goals to pace the Colonials, while seniors Shea Cassidy, Cassidy Shollenberger, and Bailey Forcier each had two a piece. Forcier also tallied a game-high eight draw controls. Senior Michaela Lynch chipped in on the offensive end as well, recording one goal, one assist, and a game-high four ground balls. In their first collegiate game, freshmen Caroline Kiernan and Katie Quinn matched their veteran teammates with two goals apiece. Kiernan had four shots and one ground ball, while Quinn tallied two shots and one assist.

The Hoyas are 3-0 all-time against the Colonials and 1-0 on the road. The last meeting was a 17-2 Georgetown victory during the 2009 season at home. The last meeting on the road was a tight 11-10 Hoya victory in 2008.

Wednesday is Georgetown's second-consecutive road game. The last time GU began the season with back-to-back road contests was during the 2006 season when the Blue & Gray finished 14-4.
