WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team finished its first BIG EAST Conference series of the season on Sunday with a 3-2 loss against Creighton. The Hoyas fell to 8-19 and 1-2 in BIG EAST Conference play while Creighton improved to 11-17 and 2-1 in conference play.
Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) started in the circle for the Hoyas. She went the distance pitching seven innings and giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out nine.
GU opened the scoring ins the bottom of the second inning. Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second base after a passed ball. Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) then reached on an error to put runners on first and second. After a flyout, Alexa Dolby (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) stepped up and hit an RBI single into center to score Elvina.
After Creighton tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning, Georgetown would regain the lead in the fourth inning. Sera Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) fired a two-out single into center field and reached second after an error by the center fielder. Dolby the delivered her second RBI of the game with a single into center to plate Stevens. The Bluejays however would take the lead after plating a run in each of the last two innings to win, 3-2. The Blue & Gray had a chance to tie the game in the seventh. Mallory Belknap (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) walked with one out and Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) doubled into center to put runners at second and third. Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern) then walked to load the bases but two-consecutive flyouts ended the game.
