WASHINGTON - Georgetown University track & field All-American Piper Donaghu (Portland, Ore./Grant) was named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon out of the league office. This is the first edition of the outdoor weekly honors of the season and it comes after the Blue & Gray opened the outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays, a two-day meet hosted by NC State University at the Paul Derr Track.
Donaghu put up a personal record (PR) performance in the women's 1,500-meter run as the junior clocked 4:22.48 in the event to finish fourth overall. She led a trio of Hoyas among the top 20 in the field of more than 100 student-athletes. Her time ranks second in the league and is currently the sixth-fastest time in the country and second in the East region.
This is Donaghu's first honor of the season and the first of her career.
The Hoyas will continue the season on Friday and Saturday, March 31 - April 1 with three different meets on the schedule. Georgetown is slated to compete in the Colonial Relays (Williamsburg, Va.), Florida Relays (Gainesville, Fla.) and the Stanford Invitational (Palo Alto, Calif.), all scheduled as two-day meets.
• The Hoyas have tallied 10 total outdoor honors since the conference started dishing out weekly accolades during the 2012 season.
• Donaghu notches just the second women's outdoor track athlete of the week accolade as the Hoyas have previously won the men's outdoor track honor six times, and garnered the men's outdoor field award and women's outdoor field accolade once apiece.
