WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team will begin a seven-game homestand when it hosts Cornell University for a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon. The Hoyas (16-12) are coming off of a series victory over George Mason this past weekend, winning the final two games, 7-3 and 4-2. Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) picked up the win on Saturday before Kevin Superko (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley/Phillips Andover) won his fifth-consecutive start on Sunday. Three Hoyas homered in Saturday's victory, while Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) had three hits and scored two runs on Sunday. Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn./St. Thomas Academy/IMG Academy) also registered his second save.
For the season, Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) leads the Hoyas with a .390 batting average and is tied with Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge) and Beau Hall (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) for the team lead with three home runs. Kuzbel, who is batting .359, leads the team and the BIG EAST with 29 RBI. Sammy Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) is among the conference leaders with nine doubles and also has 21 RBI on the year.
Cornell enters Tuesday's game with a 10-8 overall record and a 1-3 mark in Ivy League play. The Big Red are batting .270 as a team and have a .372 slugging percentage with six home runs, four triples and 35 doubles through their first 18 games. The pitching staff owns a 4.17 ERA and has a 110-69 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Kuzbel is currently riding a team-high, five-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 23-consecutive games, the longest such streak this season for the Hoyas.
Climbing the Georgetown Ranks
Kuzbel, a senior, keeps climbing the ranks of Georgetown's career leaders. He ranks 21st in program history with 178 career hits and needs just 22 more to become just the 11th member of the 200-hit club. He also needs just one more RBI to become the 19th member of the 100-RBI club at Georgetown. He is currently tied for the program lead with 12 career sacrifice flies and needs just one more for sole possession of first place. He is tied for the national lead this season with seven sacrifice flies.
