Alexa Popowitz Named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore women's golfer Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) was named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week after her performance at the Bryan National Collegiate last weekend in North Carolina.

Playing in an 18-team field that featured seven teams among the top-25 in the latest Golfstat Rankings and 14 among the top-75 in the country, Popowitz was Georgetown's top finisher, tying for 44th place at 11-over par 227.

Popowitz posted two-straight rounds of 4-over par 76 and closed with a 3-over par 75 in the final round to lead the Blue & Gray.

She was two top-20 finishes and a 75.56 stroke average this spring.

Popowitz was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year last year after being the highest freshman finisher at the BIG EAST Championship, taking seventh place with an 18-over par 234.

Georgetown hosts the Hoya Invitational Monday, April 10.
