WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey program released its schedule for the 2017 season on Wednesday. The Hoyas will play 10 home games at Cooper Field and nine road contests as GU looks to build upon its record from a season ago.
Georgetown opens the season with an exhibition match against Towson University on Aug. 19 in Maryland. The squads will play during the regular season as well.
The 2017 season will officially begin on Aug. 25 as GU hosts Davidson College at 2 p.m. at Cooper Field. This is also the start a four-game homestand for the Blue & Gray. GU will host Appalachian State University on Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. and then Rider University on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. The homestand will conclude on Sept. 3 as the Hoyas battle Lock Haven University at 1 p.m.
The following weekend, the Blue & Gray will head out on the road with contests against the University of Massachusetts Lowell (Sept. 8) and the College of the Holy Cross (Sept. 10).
Georgetown opens BIG EAST Conference play on Sept. 15 at home against Quinnipiac University at 2 p.m. The return to Cooper Field will be shortlived, however, as this will be followed by three road contests including one in league play.
GU will face Towson for the second time on Sept. 17, before traveling to Old Dominion University on Sept. 22 for a BIG EAST matchup. A trip to Longwood University on Sept. 24 rounds it out.
A pair of home conference games against Temple University (Sept. 29) and Liberty University (Oct. 6) sandwich a matchup with LIU Brooklyn on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
Georgetown will head back out on Oct. 13 playing at Providence College and starting a four-game road swing. The Hoyas will travel to Lehigh University on Oct. 15, and then the University of Connecticut on Oct. 21 for a BIG EAST contest. GU's final road game of the season will be on Oct. 22 at Sacred Heart University.
On Oct. 27, Georgetown will host Villanova University at 2 p.m. in its final contest in league play. The Hoyas will close out the 2017 campaign on Oct. 29 hosting La Salle University at 1 p.m.
Georgetown returns 13 players in 2017 and will welcome seven freshmen in the fall.
