Fahy Named BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week

May 9, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University track & field All-American Darren Fahy (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) was named the BIG EAST Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon out of the league office. This is the fifth conference weekly honor for the Blue & Gray of the 2017 outdoor season. The honor comes after the Hoyas split sites over the weekend with Fahy traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Payton Jordan Invitational while a contingent of athletes stayed close to home in College Park, Md., for the Kehoe Twilight Meet. It was the final tuneup weekend for the Blue & Gray, which is set for the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13.

Fahy, an All-American in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finished seventh in Section 1 of the event at Payton Jordan, clocking 8:46.42. He and teammate Scott Carpenter (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial), also an All-American in the steeple, are the only athletes from the BIG EAST Conference to eclipse nine minutes in the event this season as Carpenter clocked 8:48.30 at Payton Jordan.

Fahy's season-opening time leads a trio of Hoyas atop the BIG EAST leaderboard, followed by Carpenter and freshman Eion Nohilly (Golden's Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) for third, and ranks sixth in the east region as well as 11th in the NCAA this season.

This is Fahy's first honor of the season and the third of his career as he previously garnered the BIG EAST distinction during the 2016 and 2015 outdoor track seasons.

The Hoyas will open the postseason on Friday and Saturday at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Jumbo Elliott Track on the campus of Villanova University. The outdoor championships in its entirety will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

To watch BEDN, download the FOX Sports GO app for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire tablets and phones and select Windows devices to view BIG EAST Digital Network games on-the-go. The FOX Sports GO platform can also be accessed at on desktops.
