WASHINGTON - Georgetown University field hockey freshman midfielder Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon. Additionally, junior goalkeeper Chloe Verwiel (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Currently leading all Hoyas with three goals and six points, Osborne made the most of her opportunities finding the back of the cage on all three of her shots. On Friday in an exciting 2-1 victory over Davidson, Osborne managed to get the ball past keeper Bean Rodriguez to tie the game at one. Then on Sunday, Osborne tallied two more goals as the Hoyas defeated Appalachian State, 8-0.
Verwiel tallied two wins, including one shutout this past weekend after notching her first two career starts. She played all 70 minutes in the 2-1 win over Davidson on Friday managing five stops in the cage. On Sunday, Verwiel had six saves to claim the 8-0 shutout.
This is the first career weekly honor for both Hoyas. The last time a Hoya was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week was Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) on September 7, 2015.
Georgetown will continue its four-game homestand to begin the season on Friday as the squad hosts Rider University at Cooper Field at 2 p.m. Live stats and a new-and-improved webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
