Georgetown Travels to Butler and Xavier for Weekend Matchups

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (8-11, 3-6 BIG EAST) will continue BIG EAST Conference play on Friday evening, traveling to Butler University for a 7 p.m. contest against the Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN). On Sunday, the Hoyas will face the Xavier University Musketeers in a 2 p.m. matchup. Sunday will be broadcast live on FS2.

Senior forward Cynthia Petke (Yaounde, Cameroon/-/Chipola College) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Hoyas to a 1-1 week. Petke was the league's top scorer and No. 5 rebounder last week, averaging 25.0 points, off .541 shooting, and 9.5 rebounds. The senior's week was highlighted by a 26-point, 13-rebound, three-steal outing in Friday's 85-58 win over Marquette who was previously unbeaten in league play. She added a game-high 24 points against DePaul on Sunday in a 78-62 loss, along with six boards and three steals.

Georgetown has three Hoyas averaging in double figures. Junior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) is averaging 17.5 ppg, ranking second in the BIG EAST, to go along with 6.5 rpg and a league-high 52 steals. Senior guard Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va./Yorktown/Virginia) is second on the squad with 13.9 ppg, ranking 10th in the league, as well as 2.5 rpg. Petke is averaging 12.1 ppg and 9.5 rpg, which ranks third in the league on the boards. Senior center Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) is leading the conference in blocks with 1.8 bpg.

The Hoyas are second in the league in scoring defense allowing just 60.4 ppg, as well as second in offensive rebounds with 13.3 rpg. Georgetown is leading the league and ranked among the top 30 in the country in turnover margin holding a +5.42 advantage.

The Bulldogs (13-8, 5-4 BIG EAST) are tied for third in the conference standings at the halfway point. Butler outscored Providence 16-6 in the third quarter to help record the 68-57 win on Sunday. Tori Schickel scored 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds against the Friars. Schickel is leading the team and is fourth in the league with 17.1 ppg, she is also second in the BIG EAST on the glass with 10.1 rpg. Schickel is one of just two players in the league to be averaging a double-double.

The Hoyas are 3-6 all-time against the Bulldogs and 1-3 on the road. Earlier this season, Georgetown fell at home, 66-57, against Butler. Petke led the way with her eighth double-double of the season tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds. She was followed by White who had 11 points and was 6-of-6 from the line. The last meeting in Indiana was a 58-52 Hoya victory on January 22, 2017.

Xavier (9-11, 2-7 BIG EAST) dropped a 71-64 overtime game against Creighton on Monday. Anniina Ã"ijänen led the Musketeers in scoring for the second time in as many games as the senior forward scored 14 points, Jada Byrd added 13 points and Na'Teshia Owens finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Imani Partlow is the lone Musketeer averaging in double figures for the season with 10.2 ppg.

Georgetown is 6-6 all-time against the Musketeers and 1-4 at Xavier. In the last meeting, the Hoyas held on to win, 65-60, at home. White led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds. She was followed by Venson who tallied 15 points and a team-high six assists. Last year, the Blue & Gray swept the series winning, 69-64, in overtime in Cincinnati.
