Staudt Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, Farrell Earns Weekly Honors

WASHINGTON – Senior Jenna Staudt (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday and senior Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. The two players were applauded for their efforts against Providence on Sunday after defeating the Friars, 1-0, in a BIG EAST showdown.
The award marks Staudt's second career nod to the BIG EAST. She was named Defensive Player of the Week once before during the 2017 campaign. The No. 4 Georgetown Hoyas have been recognized for nine-straight weeks by the league and this is Farrell's fifth-consecutive week receiving conference honors.
The Hoyas recorded their 10th shutout of the season on Sunday against Providence, 1-0, and clinched a berth in the conference championship. Staudt anchored a defense which limited the Friars to just six shots, four on goal, on the afternoon, while completely shutting down PC's top offensive threat, Hannah McNulty. McNulty, who entered the contest averaging a BIG EAST-high 4.57 attempts for contest, was held without a shot for the first time this season. Staudt and the Hoya defense have allowed just one goal in league play this season.
Farrell scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute against Providence, tallying her 14th goal this season and fifth of the game-winning variety. It marked the ninth consecutive game the BIG EAST's leading scorer notched a goal.
