Men’s Soccer Travels to Seton Hall on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer team will travel to Seton Hall University for a Saturday afternoon BIG EAST Conference matchup in South Orange, New Jersey. Georgetown is 7-3-3 on the season and 3-1-1 in BIG EAST play.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.  The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with David Gass calling the action.

The Hoyas are coming off of a 2-1 double overtime win over Villanova last Saturday.  The game winner came in the 106th minute as a foul occurred just outside the box and senior captain Kyle Zajec (Westport, Conn. / Staples) hit a perfect ball off of the free kick to the right post.  He found the head of senior captain Brendan McDonough (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) who rose up to hit it across the face and out of the Wildcat defense's reach.  Junior forward Riley Strassner (Avon, Conn. / Avon) was in the mix and managed to head it into the net to give the Blue & Gray the 2-1 golden goal in double overtime.

For his efforts against Villanova and Maryland earlier in the week, McDonough was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.

Sophomore forward Derek Dodson (Aurora, Ill. / Waubonsie Valley) is leading the team in scoring with 12 points on six goals for the year.  Zajec is second with three goals and a squad-best five assists for 11 points.  They are followed by junior forward Achara (Enugu, Nigeria / Berkshire School [Mass.]) who has nine points for the season with four goals and an assist.  Junior defender Dylan Nealis (Massapequa, N.Y. / Massapequa) rounds out the top four with a goal and four assists for six points on the year.  Freshman goalkeeper Giannis Nikopolidis (Athens, Greece / Nea Genia Zirdi) has played in 11 games and tallied 39 saves with a 0.76 GAA.

Seton Hall (5-4-2, 1-3-1 BIG EAST) is coming off a 1-0 win on Tuesday night over NJIT in The Hall's nonconference finale.  Francisco Alderete scored a second half goal in the win, while Andreas Nota made five saves in his third clean sheet of the season.  The Hall has been led offensively this season by freshman CJ Tibbling who paces the squad with four goals and 10 points.

The Hoyas are 18-16-3 all-time against the Pirates and 7-7-2 on the road.  The last contest was a 3-0 victory at Shaw Field a season ago.  Christopher Lema scored a pair of goals and Dodson had one in the victory.  The last meeting in New Jersey was a scoreless double overtime tie during the 2016 season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
