– Junior Meaghan Nally
(Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday and senior Arielle Schechtman
(Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. The two players were applauded for their performances against Marquette and Butler last week in league play.
The awards mark Nally's third recognition by the BIG EAST this season and Schechtman's fifth. Additionally, the No. 4 Georgetown Hoyas have been recognized for 10-straight weeks by the league.
The Hoyas went 2-0 last week, defeating Marquette in a double overtime thriller, 2-1, and then shutting out Butler on Sunday, 2-0, at Shaw Field. Nally led a Georgetown defense which allowed just six shots on goal over two wins last week, outshooting the Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs by a combined 35-17 margin. The Hoyas shutout Butler to clinch the BIG EAST regular-season title for a second consecutive year. Nally added a bit of offense as well, registering two assists, both on game winners, including a golden goal from senior Caitlin Farrell
(Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) in the 102nd minute at Marquette.
Schechtman picked up her 11th shutout of the season in Sunday's victory, her 43rd overall. The senior totaled five saves between both games and surrendered one goal for an .833 save percentage and 0.47 goals against average in over 191 minutes of action.
Next up, the Blue & Gray will close out the regular season on Thursday at Xavier for a 7 p.m. kickoff slate. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Mike Schmaltz calling the play-by-play. Live stats will also be available at www.GUHoyas.com
