– The Georgetown University men's basketball team welcomes Campbell University to the friendly confines of Capital One Arena on Saturday, Nov. 24 with tipoff scheduled for noon. Saturday's tilt will be shown live on FSN while fans can view the game locally on MASN2 with John Fanta handling the play-by-play and Tarik Turner providing analysis. Locally, the game can he beard on The Team 980 with Rich Chvotkin handling the radio call in his 45th season.
The Hoyas (4-1) return to the court following a 1-1 weekend in Montego Bay, Jamaica with a pair of games as part of the Jamaica Classic. Last Sunday, freshman guard James Akinjo
(Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) drained a 3-pointer with 4.9 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime against South Florida. The Hoyas went on to win the game 76-73 in the extra frame.
For his efforts in a 2-1 week for the Blue & Gray, Akinjo was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday, November 19. For the week, Akinjo averaged 34.3 mpg, 14.3 ppg and 4.7 apg in three contests. He led the team with a career-high 19 points, seven assists and three rebounds in 36 minutes to help the Hoyas with an 88-80 win at Illinois Tuesday night in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.
Also receiving accolades from the BIG EAST was senior center Jessie Govan
(Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) who got a nod to the honor roll. Govan averaged 35.7 mpg, 19.3 ppg and 7.7 rpg in three games last week. He led the team in scoring in two of the three games. For his efforts, the senior center was named to the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic All-Tournament Team – Montego Bay Division following the final game on Sunday.
Govan currently leads the team in scoring with 19.4 ppg while Akinjo and freshman forward Josh LeBlanc
(Baton Rouge, La. / Madison Prep Academy) add 12.8 ppg and 10.0 ppg, respectively, to round out those in double figures. Govan's 7.6 rpg is a team best followed by LeBlanc's 7.0 rpg. Akinjo's 5.6 apg paces the offense.
Campbell (3-2) is coming off a 2-0 performance in Montego Bay as part of the Jamaica Classic, defeating Florida A&M (66-59) and Austin Peay (78-72) at the Montego Bay Convention Centre. Chris Clemons leads a trio of Camels in double figures as he averages 31.6 ppg, followed by Isaac Chatman (11.8 ppg) and Andrew Eudy (10.0 ppg). Clemons leads the team with 6.2 rpg followed by Eudy's 5.6 rpg.
This is the first meeting between Georgetown and Campbell. The Blue & Gray holds a 5-2 record against opponents from the Big South Conference.
