Georgetown and Princeton Set for Four-Game Series this Weekend

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team continues its six-game homestand this weekend when it hosts Princeton for a four-game series at Shirley Povich Field. The teams will open up on Friday at 3 p.m., before playing a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday's finale is also scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats and a subscription-based video stream will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.

The Hoyas (3-12) are coming off a 16-9 victory over Coppin State in their home opener on Wednesday. The Blue & Gray hit six doubles, including three by Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk), and stole 10 bases as a team. McCabe also had six RBIs, while Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) was on base all five times and scored four runs. Beau Dana (Marblehead, Mass./Deerfield Academy) picked up the win in relief, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings with a career-high five strikeouts.

McCabe is second on the team with a .367 (22-for-60) batting average and has team highs of eight doubles and 13 RBIs. Richie O'Reilly (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Loyola HS) is hitting at a .379 (11-for-29) clip to lead the Hoyas, while Shirley and Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) both have scored 11 runs. The GU pitching staff is led by Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn./St. Thomas Academy/IMG Academy), Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) and Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) who have all have thrown at least 15.0 innings and have recorded at least 15 strikeouts. Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) leads the bullpen with two saves and a 1.74 ERA.

Princeton enters this weekend's series with an 0-7 record, having been swept in series at UNC-Wilmington and South Carolina. Joseph Flynn leads the Tigers with a .357 (10-for-28) batting average and has two of the team's home runs. Sy Snedeker is right behind Flynn with a .333 (6-for-18) batting average and has a team-high five RBIs. Princeton is hitting .246 as a team, while the pitching staff owns a 7.88 team ERA and opponents are hitting .294 with 13 home runs against the Tigers.
