Georgetown Travels to Navy for Midweek Matchup

The Hoyas (9-20, 2-1 BIG EAST) are coming off a 2-1 weekend, opening BIG EAST play with two exciting, extra-inning victories over Xavier. After falling in the series opener, 6-2, the Hoyas came back for a 2-1, 10-inning victory on a walk-off single by Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton). Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice), who had a career-high 12 strikeouts, and Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) combined for a one-hitter, GU's first since 2015. In Saturday's finale, GU rallied in both the ninth and 10th innings before Alex Bernauer (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) delivered a walk-off single in the 11th to give the Hoyas a 5-4 win.

Swad was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday. He came on in relief twice over the weekend and earned the victory in both games as the Hoyas won a pair of games in walk-off, extra-inning fashion. In the second game of Friday's doubleheader, Swad came on in the seventh inning and fired 2.2 hitless innings, with three strikeouts, as the Hoyas walked off with a 2-1 victory in 10 innings. In Saturday's series finale, Swad came back on and battled through three innings, allowing one run on three hits with two more strikeouts. He picked up the win again as he pitched the ninth, 10th and 11th innings and the Hoyas earned their second-straight walk-off win, 5-4.

For the season, Davis leads the Hoyas with a .319 (15-for-47) batting average while Richie O'Reilly (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Loyola HS) and Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) both come in at a .398 clip. McCabe, who has started all 29 games at shortstop, also has team highs of nine doubles and 24 RBIs, which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) is a perfect 12-of-12 in stolen bases, ranking second in the conference, while Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) is 8-of-8 to rank fifth.

Navy enters Wednesday's contest with a 25-9 overall record and a 9-5 mark in the Patriot League. Zach Biggers and Stephen Born lead the Midshipmen with 48 hits apiece and are hitting at .361 and .347 clips, respectively. As a team, Navy owns a .293 batting average and is scoring nearly seven runs per game. The pitching staff has a 3.21 team ERA and has a struck out 292 to just 112 walks.

The Hoyas and Midshipmen met during the season's opening weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a 2-1 Navy victory. Kevin Superko (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley/Phillips Andover) started on the mound and went 5.2 strong innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out two.
