WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team defeated local rival George Mason on Thursday in Fairfax, Virginia, 4-3. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 7-5 this season.
The Patriots earned the doubles point over the Hoyas, winning two out of three sets. The lone win from GU came from sophomore Ian Witmer (North Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) and junior Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel), who defeated Carter Bradford and Ryan Charles at the No. 3 position, 6-3.
In singles, GU won four-consecutive matches against George Mason. Freshman Connor Lee (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) started off the rally, winning both sets against Daniel Gutierrez at the No. 2 position, 6-4, 7-5. Freshman Mark Militzer (Charleston, S.C./Connections Academy) earned the next point at the No. 3 spot in a battle against Jakob Nielsen, 4-6, 6-3, 11-9. Freshman Rohan Kamdar (Singapore/Anglo Chinese School) knocked off Edward Ayers at No. 1, 5-7, 6-3, 10-4. Additionally, freshman Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) swept Giuliano Buzoianu at the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-0.
The Blue & Gray will return to action on Saturday for its final game of the regular season. GU will take on Villanova in a BIG EAST matchup at 2 p.m.
