WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's women's rowing team heads to New Jersey this weekend for a day of racing on Saturday. The fifth-ranked lightweight squad travels to take on No. 4 Princeton for the Class of 2006 Cup while the openweights return to action after a week's hiatus to take part in the Cherry Hill Invitational.
Coming off a strong showing at the Knecht Cup, the Hoyas will compete against Princeton for the annual Class of 2006 Cup in their final tune up before the Eastern Sprints. Georgetown and Princeton faced each other twice last weekend, with the Blue & Gray topping the Tigers by 1.64 seconds in the qualifying heat and then edging them by 1.08 seconds in the Grand Final.
"We're excited about getting a chance to race Princeton one-on-one on Saturday," assistant coach Kieren Emery said. "Our showing at the Knecht Cup gives us added confidence going into the weekend, but we know it will be a very tight race against a really good opponent."
Saturday's races will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network. Links to the video will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
