Hoya Sailing Clinches Berth to ICSA Women's National Championship

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University sailing team was narrowly edged out, taking second place by just one point, at the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Women's Championship. The two-day conference championship regatta was hosted by Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Back home on the friendly waters of the Potomac River, GU hosted the Robert Arrigan Memorial Regatta, with squads finishing fifth, sixth and seventh.

MAISA Women's Conference Championship (April 21-22; Norfolk, Virginia)
With no finishes outside of the top nine, the Hoyas finished second in a tightly-contested MAISA Women's Conference Championship. Georgetown won the A division, turning in podium performances in seven of 11 races. In the B Division, Georgetown was steady but not as much of a constant presence among the top three despite a pair of race wins.

Finishing second in the B division, the Blue & Gray combined for 89 (38/51) total points to take second at the regatta. With the second-place showing, the Hoyas will compete at the 2018 Sperry ICSA Women's National Championship as the top nine teams advance.

With glassy waters on Saturday, the majority of the races occurred on Sunday. The Hoyas put together three different lineups, showcasing their depth and finishing fifth, sixth and seventh.
