Lightweight Women's Rowing Wins Class of 2006 Cup

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's lightweight women's rowing team won the Class of 2006 Cup against Princeton for the first time in program history over the weekend. The Hoyas beat the Tigers by 2.2 seconds in the varsity eight race to claim the trophy and it was the first ever win for the Blue & Gray over Princeton.

Rounding out a strong day on the water, the Hoyas also defeated Princeton in the varsity four and second varsity four races.

Georgetown returns to action on Sunday as it takes part in the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Georgetown's openweight squad returned to the water at the Cherry Hill Invitational and had another strong result. The varsity eight squad placed fourth in the Grand Final after posting the fourth fastest time in Heat 1 and fifth-fastest time overall. They were also named the Patriot League Honorable Mention Boat of the Week for their efforts.

Also advancing to the Grand Final was the second varsity four who placed sixth, while the varsity four and second varsity eight placed second and fourth in their respective Petite Finals.

The openweight squad returns to action on Saturday as it looks to defend the Class of 2006 Cup against North Carolina in Lake Garner, North Carolina.
