WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. In addition, Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) and Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) were both selected for the weekly honor roll.
Marrocco collected eight saves for the Hoyas in an 11-6 victory over St. John's in the regular season finale. With the win, the Blue & Gray clinched the second seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship. Marrocco has been named Defensive Player of the Week four times this season and eight times during his tenure on the Hilltop.
Carraway led the Hoyas with three goals and an assist against the Red Storm. Smith collected four ground balls to go with a caused turnover to help Georgetown hold an opponent to six goals or fewer for the seventh time this season.
The Hoyas return to action on Thursday at the BIG EAST Championship hosted by Villanova on Thursday, May 3. Second-seeded Georgetown takes on the host third-seeded Wildcats at 7 p.m.
