– No. 22 Georgetown University's women's soccer goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman
(Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla Country Day/UCLA) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday afternoon. The Hoyas are 1-0-1 this season after their opening weekend in the Virginia Tech Tournament.
This is Schechtman's seventh weekly award in her career with the Hoyas. Earlier in August, Schechtman was named Preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year.
The senior snapped the Georgetown program record for career shutouts with her 33rd following Friday's clean sheet win over Georgia, 1-0. Against the Bulldogs, Schechtman made two saves, including a crucial save with six seconds left in the first half to keep the score from evening. In Sunday's 1-1 draw against Virginia Tech, the goalkeeper managed seven saves, the most recorded for Schechtman since the 2016 season.
The Blue & Gray will host No. 3 Duke on Thursday, August 23 in its home opener at Shaw Field at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Monika Moore calling the action. Live stats for the game can be found at www.GUHoyas.com.
