McDonough Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University men's soccer senior defender Brendan McDonough (Matthews, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) was named to the 2018 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, presented by World Wide Technology on Thursday.  The second-year team captain was one of 32 Division I men's players selected.

McDonough appeared in 18 games with 17 starts to his credit last season. He led a defense that posted eight shutouts and allowed just 15 goals on the year. As a junior, he was named First Team All-Great Lakes Region by the United Soccer Coaches as well as being a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree. In his career, he has tallied 42 games played with 35 starts.  This is his first nod to the MAC Hermann Watch List.

Georgetown was one of just four schools to have honorees on both the men's and women's lists.  Additionally, McDonough was one of just two players from the BIG EAST Conference named to the watch list.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

In related soccer news, the United Soccer Coaches announced its 2018 Preseason Poll on Monday and the Hoyas were voted into the No. 13 spot.

The Hoyas finished the season with a mark of 14-4-2. Georgetown claimed the 2017 BIG EAST Championship and earned an automatic NCAA Tournament berth. It marked the second championship in three years for the Blue & Gray as well as the second tournament championship in program history.
