Nally and Schechtman Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

WASHINGTON – A pair of Hoyas on the No. 11 Georgetown women's soccer team earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors, announced Monday afternoon by the league office. Junior Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and senior goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. This is Schechtman's second nod to the BIG EAST Weekly awards this season and Nally's first. This is also GU's third consecutive-week earning honors in the 2018 season.
The Blue & Gray (4-0-2) went 2-0 over the weekend. Georgetown shut out George Washington on Thursday, 1-0, and finished with a 2-0 shutout against longtime rival West Virginia on Sunday. Schechtman was credited with both wins and recorded her fourth shutout this season and her 36th overall at GU. The senior is the all-time leader in the category at Georgetown.
Nally scored her first goal of the season against West Virginia on Sunday in the 35th minute off of a corner kick to give the Hoyas a 1-0 advantage in the game. She also anchored an outstanding Hoya defense that prevented both opponents from scoring past Schechtman in the cage.
Georgetown will host local rival George Mason at Shaw Field on Sunday, September 9 at noon. Live stats and a subscription-based webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
