WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's tennis (3-8, 2-1 BIG EAST) wraps up the season with a 6-1 win at the USTA National Campus against Providence (2-5, 0-2 BIG EAST) on Thursday afternoon. The Hoyas were downed 6-1 on Tuesday against Creighton (9-4, 2-1 BIG EAST).
Against Creighton, the Hoyas came up short during doubles competition, falling behind 1-0. During singles play, Agata Mikos earned GU's lone win, defeating Kate Krueger (Creighton) 6-7, 6-4, 10-5. The Bluejays would go on to win 6-1.
During the doubles competition against Providence, the duo of Benditti and Ashton defeated Julia Migliorini and Haley Gurski (Providence), 6-2. Moenster and Mikos went on to defeat Mimi Dailey and Vannelie Melendez (Providence), 6-2 to give GU a 1-0 lead going into singles competition.
In singles play, Mikos downed Migliorini (Providence), 6-2, 6-1 to finish the week 3-0. Moenster defeated Gurski (Providence) in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. Ashton was strong in her outing against Katie Mulvey (Providence), winning 6-0, 6-1. With the victory fully secured for the Hoyas, Benditti added to GU's match win total, edging out Dailey (Providence), 6-3, 6-4. Aizpurua earned a comeback win against Melendez (Providence), 3-6, 6-0, 11-9 to give Georgetown the 6-1 win over the Friars.
The Hoyas will end the season at 3-8 with a 2-1 record in the BIG EAST after the University and the Department of Athletics announced the cancelation of all spring practices and competitions effective immediately. The decision was made in response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) and is in alignment with the NCAA as well as the BIG EAST Conference and the Patriot League.
