THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The Georgetown University baseball team hit a trio of three-run home runs to defeat Navy 16-6 in the season opener on Friday afternoon in a neutral site game at Finch Field. With the win, the Hoyas move to 1-0 on the year while the Midshipmen fall to 0-1.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Carter Bosch started on the mound, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out two.
- Chase Walter went 1.2 innings in relief, allowing two runs. Carson Frye made his collegiate debut and struck out one in a scoreless 1.2 innings. Noah Abdalla finished the game with a scoreless frame in his first appearance in two years.
- AJ Lotsis led the offense with three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs.
- Ryan M. Davis and Freddy Achecar III each homered and drove in four runs. Davis finished with three hits and Achecar was on base three times.
- Kai Nelson had three hits and an RBI while scoring three times. Eddie McCabe also scored three times, reaching base four times via three walks and a hit by pitch.
- Georgetown registered 12 hits on the day and took advantage of nine walks and four hit batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoyas jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Lotsis started the scoring with a bases-loaded ground out. Achecar followed with a blast over the right field fence, scoring three runs to give GU a 4-0 lead.
- Navy cut it to 4-1 with a solo home run in the top of the third.
- Lotsis extended the lead to 7-1 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third.
- The Midshipmen answered with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it a 7-4 game.
- After Walter stranded the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, the Hoyas exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning. Davis launched a three-run homer over the right field wall to start the scoring. Three-straight walks loaded the bases before Lotsis delivered an RBI single. Achecar followed with an RBI ground out before Alex Rosen scored two runs with a double to make it 14-4.
- Navy got a couple of runs back in the top of the seventh, but the Hoyas answered right back as Davis led off with a double and Nelson singled him in with two outs to give GU a 15-6 lead. Davis reached on an infield single with the bases loaded in the eighth to provide the final score.
OF NOTE
- The 16 runs scored on Friday surpass Georgetown's season high from last season (14).
