Women Take Third At 2000 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships

BOSTON, MASS. (Oct. 27) - The Georgetown University women's cross country team, ranked 10th in the nation in the current FinishLynx Women's Cross Country Poll, posted a third-place finish at the 2000 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship held Friday, October 27, at Franklyn Park in Boston, Mass. The Hoyas missed second place by a mere point. Georgetown won the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship title in 1999 and had hoped to make it two in a row.

Seventh-ranked Boston College won the championship team crown with 38 points, easily outdistancing #17 Providence with 71 points, and Georgetown with 72. Rounding out the top five were #17 Villanova in fourth place with 81 points, and #24 West Virginia in fifth with 91.

Grad student Autumn Fogg (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) was the Hoyas' top finisher on the day. Fogg crossed the finish line of the 5,000-meter course in 17:07, good for third place. Seniors Emily Enstice (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and Lorena Adams (Lakehurst, N.J./Manchester Township) were the next two GU runners across. Enstice clocked 17:36 to take 10th place, while Adams registered 17:39 for the 14th spot. Senior Kristen Gordon (Alamo, Calif./Carondelet) and freshman Amanda Pape (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) both posted a time of 17:54 in the race. Gordon was awarded 22nd place, while Pape garnered 23rd.

Villanova's Ann McGranahan won the women's race in 16:59.
