The Georgetown University women's cross country team finished in third place at the 34-team 27th Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational, held Oct. 7 in Lehigh, Pa. The Hoyas scored 119 points to garner the third spot. Villanova won the meet with 58 points, followed by Cornell in second place with 81 points. Rounding out the top five were Michigan State with 145 points, and St. Joseph's with 227.
The GU men claimed 11th place, out of 36 schools participating, with 394 points. Michigan State won the men's competition with 65 points, followed by Cornell in second with 105, and Navy in third with 117. Army was fourth with 124 points and St. Joseph's earned fifth place with 171.
Freshman Colleen Kelly (Flourtown, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) was the first Hoya to cross the finish line. Kelly clocked 21:54.42 to take 15th place. Sophomore Liz Churchville (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion Area) posted a 20th-place performance with a time of 22:04.12. She was followed closely by senior Kate Crowley (Kennebunk, Maine/Phillips Academy) in 22nd place with a mark of 22:06.23. Junior Tyrona Heath (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) was 28th (22:11.85), while sophomore Carly Nuzbach (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) was 34th (22:15.25).
Tuula Laitinen of Toledo won the women's race in 20:26.20.
Senior Isidro Pimentel (Jersey City, N.J./Henry Snyder) was the first GU finisher on the men's side. Pimentel ran 25:26.96 to take 39th place. Sophomore George O'Loughlin (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) was the next GU runner across the line. O'Loughlin recorded 25:57.25 to earn 70th place. Rounding out the GU point scorers were: senior John Lenahan (Western Springs, Ill./St. Ignatius) and freshmen David Swift (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) and Felix Chrobog (Washington, D.C./St. Albans Academy). Lenahan was 86th (26:09.32); Swift 99th (26:19.62) and Chrobog 118th (26:33.87).
Adrian Blincoe of Villanova won the men's competition in 24:08.83.
