Men's Track Competes at Navy Invitational

The Georgetown University men's track & field team started off the 2000-2001 indoor schedule at Navy on Saturday, December 9, in Annapolis, Md. The meet, which was based on individual finishes rather than team results, saw several Hoyas place in the top five as well as qualify for IC4A competition.

Individually, Corey Smith (Sr., Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) and Kyle Smits (Sr., Bellvue, Wash./Newport) had solid showings in the 3000-meter run, with both men qualifying for IC4As. Smith was third in 8:16.9, while Smits took sixth place in 8:28.0. Davin Williams (Jr., Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) won the long jump. William's winning mark was 23' 1-1/4". Tom Howell (Jr., Cary, N.C./Apex Senior) and Brad Stapleton (Sr., San Carlos, Calif./Junipero Serra) ran four-five in the 5000-meter run. Howell recorded 14:57.91, while Stapleton registered 15:05.44.

Georgetown's men's distance medley relay team of Jesse O'Connell (Fr., Westminster, Md./Westminster), Nick Reynolds (Sr., Paoli, Pal./Great Valley), Jeff Reinhardt (Jr., Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) and Dan Tebbano (So., Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) won their event with an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:09.38. The Hoyas' two-mile relay squad, comprised of Matt Lewis (Fr., Santa Fe., N.M./Santa Fe Prep), Rich Hill (Sr., Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), Matt Henry (Jr., Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) and Ezra Richards (So., Far Rockaway, N.Y./Science Skills Center), posted a time of 7:56.2 to garner fourth place. Philip Selden (Jr., Bethesda, Md./The Sidwell Friends School), Michael Williams (Jr., Washington, D.C./Dematha), Morgan Lewis (So., Oak Park, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) and Hakim Johnson (Jr., Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) combined to run 3:25.8 in the one-mile relay, good for third place.
