Individual Performances Highlight Women's Track Weekend

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 9) -- The Georgetown University women's indoor track & field team opened up the new year by competing in two meets. One group of Hoyas competed at the Maryland Invitational, held Sunday, January 7, at the new Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md. Another group participated in the Father Diamond Invitational on Saturday, January 6, at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Both meets were based on individual results rather than team finishes.

Sasha Spencer (Sr., Salem, Ore./North Salem), Treniere Clement (Fr., Stow, Ohio/Stow-Monroe Falls) and the GU 4 x 400-meter relay team were first place finishers on the day at the Maryland Invitational. Spencer clocked 25.10 to take first place in the 200-meter dash and qualify for ECAC competition. Clement, in her GU indoor track debut, claimed the top spot in the 1000-meter run with a mark of 3:04.43. Jamillah Bowman (So., Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer), Monica Hargrove (Fr., New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse), Jill Laurendeau (So., Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) and Spencer made up the winning 4 x 400-meter relay squad. GU won the race with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:49.29.

Laurendeau earned runner-up honors in the 500-meter run with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:16.07. Hargrove was fourth in the same event with a 1:17.16 mark, and Lorianne Gregory (So., Towson, Md./Towson) was sixth in 1:18.38. Bowman took third place in the 200-meter dash with a 25.66 mark. Emily Reaman (So., Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Visitation) took home two third-place finishes, one in the 1000-meter run (3:09.83) and another in the mile run (5:26.92).

The Hoyas turned in several top-five finishes at the Father Diamond meet. Georgetown's squad of Tyrona Heath (Jr., Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott), Nekeshia Woods (Jr., Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips), Nickay Penado (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y./John Jay) and Erin Sicher (So., College Park, Md./Good Counsel) won the 4 x 400 in 3:52.27. The time also qualified the team for ECAC competition. Heath and Penado also earned second-place finishes in the 1000-meter run and the 500-meters, as did Carly Nuzbach (So., Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) in the 3000. Heath was second in the 1000 (2:55.94), while Penado was the runner-up in the 500 (1:13.04) and Nuzbach was second in the 3000 (10:30.52). Heath and Penado both qualified for ECACs.

Colleen Kelly (Fr., Maple Glen, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) crossed the finish line of the 1000-meters in 3:01.20 to take third place, while Melissa Richardson (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev./Meadows) claimed fourth place in 3:06.57.
