The Georgetown University men's track & field team split up to take part in three meets this past weekend. One group of Hoyas traveled to Notre Dame, Ind., to compete in the Meyo Invitational, while another journeyed to Blacksburg, Va., to participate in the Virginia Tech Invitational. A third group, a distance medley relay squad, made a trek to Boston, Mass., to run in the New Balance Invitational.
The Hoyas' top performances at the Meyo Invitational came from Chris Miltenberg (Jr., East Northport, N.Y./John Glenn), Isidro Pimentel (Sr., Jersey City, N.J./Henry Snyder) and David Rodriguez (Sr., Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose). Miltenberg cruised to a first-place finish in the mile run in 4:02.22, while Pimentel was third in 4:04.82. Rodriguez clocked 14:14.28 in the 5000-meter run to finish sixth. All three men qualified provisionally for the NCAAs with their respective marks.
James Graham (So., Washington, D.C./Northwestern) won the 400-meter dash in 47.97 seconds. Nick Reynolds (Sr., Paoli, Pal./Great Valley) took fifth place in 48.72 seconds, and Jeff Reinhardt (Jr., Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) was sixth in 48.74. Graham, Reynolds and Reinhardt all qualified for IC4As. Mike Smith (So., Princeton, Mass./Wachusetts) also qualified for IC4As. Smith posted a time of 8:18.59 to tally a sixth-place finish in the 3000.
Sean Flynn (Sr., Warwick, R.I./Pilgram) placed second in the 35-lb. weight throw with a toss of 60' 8". Another field events performer, Robert Wingate-Robinson (So., Mt. Rainier, Md./Northwestern), returned to the Hilltop with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a 21.81 time. Flynn and Wingate-Robinson both qualified for IC4A competition.
The Hoyas' 4 x 440-meter relay team, comprised of Reinhardt, Wingate-Robinson, Graham and Reynolds, won the race in 3:12.25. Tennessee was second in 3:13.97.
Georgetown amassed 57 points at the Virginia Tech Challenge to finish in fifth place. Georgia, ranked 16th in the nation, won the meet with 147 points, followed by #24 North Carolina in second place with 142. Virginia Tech was third with 118 points, and William & Mary garnered fourth with 88.
GU's best showings at the Virginia Tech Challenge came in the field events and relays. Davin Williams' (Jr., Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) mark of 23' 9-1/2" in the triple jump was good for second place. Williams also picked up a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (45' 9") and a sixth place in the high jump (6' 6"). George O'Loughlin (So., Danbury, Conn./Danbury), Robert Pickett (Fr., Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack), Brandon Roche (Jr., Bothell, Wash./Woodinville) and Tom Bonner (Sr., Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) combined to run 10:12.53 in the distance medley relay to earn runner-up honors. William & Mary won the DMR in 10:07.84. In the 4 x 400-meter relay, the squad of Phil Selden (Jr., Bethesda, Md./The Sidwell Friends), Michael Williams (Jr., Washington, D.C./DeMatha), Matt Lewis (Fr., Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep School) and Wasim Greaves (So., Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood Senior), clocked 3:19.74 to finish third. Virginia Tech won the DMR in 3:13.99.
Other individual finishes at Virginia Tech included O'Loughlin's finished fourth-place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:11.77. Dan Tebbano (So., Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was sixth in the same race in 4:13.63. Michael Williams posted a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 49.33 seconds, and Greaves was seventh in the 800-meter run. O'Loughlin, Tebbano and Greaves qualified for the IC4A Championship to be held in March.
Jesse O'Connell (Fr., Westminster, Md./Westminster), Hakim Johnson (Jr, Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth), Matt Henry (Jr., Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) and Dylan Welsh (So., Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs Senior) made a quick trip to Boston to attempt to qualify for the NCAAs. Unfortunately, the Hoyas had to settle for an IC4A-qualifying time of 9:49.46.
