Georgetown Men Place 18th at NCAA Cross Country Championship

Terre Haute, Ind. ? The Georgetown University men?s cross country team, ranked 13th in the nation, placed 18th at the 2002 NCAA Cross Country Championship, held Monday, November 25, on the LaVern Gibson Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute. Senior Mike Smith (Princeton, Mass./Wachusetts) was the Hoyas? top finisher at the meet. Smith ran a 30:39.5 to finish 45th overall (40th in points) and earn All-America honors on the 10K course. Colorado?s Jorge Torres who finished in 29:04.7 recorded the best time of the day.

Winning the Division I Championship team title was #1 ranked Stanford. The Cardinal ended the competition with 47 points. Coming in second was Wisconsin with 107 points and they were followed by Eastern Michigan (165 points). Georgetown completed the Championship with 458 total points.

Sophomore Rod Koborsi (Houston, Texas/Jersey Village) was the Hoyas? second runner to finish the race, recording a 31:07.1 time (98th place-76th points). Freshman Fleet Hower (Marion, Va./Marion), senior Jovan Broderick (Seattle, Wash./O'Dea) and freshman Chris Lukezic (Auburn, Wash./Auburn) rounded out the Hoya point producers. Hower came in 108th (83rd points) with a 13:10.5 time, Broderick claimed 110th (31:11.8-85th points) and Lukezic placed 211th (32:27.8-174th points).
